# PalEx® Depalletiser

What is a depalletiser and what is it used for?



A depalletiser is used when goods such as sheet metal are stored or retrieved without wooden pallets. It allows product layers to be stored directly into the appropriate empty or already filled racking system – whether on pallets, in cassettes, containers or on steel shelves. If the goods are already palletised, stored in sheet metal storage drawers or flat-pack cassettes, the depalletiser lifts them off carefully. The stored goods are then transported on rollers or by forklift truck to dispatch or production.



Depalletising ensures faster, more efficient, safer and damage-free storage and retrieval, and helps to reduce pallet costs and weight. Take the PalEx® from storemaster® as an example. It allows sheet metal bundles to be effortlessly stored and unstamped so that individual sheets can be removed. Its sheet metal support stamps are made of hard rubber and protect the sheets from indentations. The punches can be moved along a diagonal cross, enabling the PalEx® to accommodate any size of wooden or modular pallet, as well as any sheet metal format.



What different types of depalletisers are there?



In the „world“ of warehouse technology, a distinction is made, amongst other things, between:




automatic depalletisers,



semi-automatic and



manual depalletisers




The former operate fully automatically as machines, largely without the need for intervention by warehouse staff. Semi-automatic and manually operated depalletisers require human intervention. Systems for palletising and depalletising often combine mechanical functions with integrated automated, motorised and pneumatic technologies. This allows the sheets to be lifted, lowered and transported carefully and without damage.



Depending on the system, specialised depalletisers can also be used for the storage of new or used bottles, glass bottles and cans for filling lines.



What are the benefits of using a depalletiser in industrial manufacturing?



Depalletisers increase efficiency, flexibility and reliability during unloading and loading. They ensure that raw materials, such as sheet metal for cans or machinery, are stored and fed into further processing more quickly, flexibly, safely and with less labour. Furthermore, there is a higher likelihood that the raw materials can be processed in top condition.



Depalletisers lift, unload and remove even heavy loads precisely and carefully, whether automatically or manually. Fewer workers are required. Furthermore, the risk of injury is reduced. Finally, they avoid problems associated with wooden pallets, such as contamination, additional load volume or load weight.



How efficient are depalletisers and what factors influence their performance?



The system’s performance depends, amongst other things, on whether it is a manual or automatic depalletiser. It also depends, of course, on the type and size of the loads. An automatic depalletiser can handle hundreds of products per hour and operate up to five times faster than manual systems.
